He graduated from West China University of Medical Sciences in 1991 and subsequently joined the faculty of Nanjing Stomatological Hospital, the affiliated hospital of the Medical School, Nanjing University. In 1999, he was entitled as a postgraduate candidate and was conferred a PhD and D.M.D after completing a 5-year program at West China School of Stomatology, Sichuan University. Since 2005, he has successively served as Associate Chief Physician, Associate Professor (2008), Chief of Surgeon (2011), and Professor (2015) in the hospital and the Medical School of Nanjing University. From 2010 to 2011, he worked as a visiting scholar at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry.
Over the past 30 years of medical practice, he has focused on the clinical diagnosis and treatment of oral and maxillofacial tumors, trauma, and congenital cleft lip and palate. He and his team have devoted their attention to the problem of the pathogenesis and clinical treatment strategies of oral cancer and the functional reconstruction of oral and maxillofacial defects after surgery. He has led more than 10 foundation projects, including the Jiangsu Provincial Key Research and Development Program, and has published more than 40 academic papers, including 20 articles indexed by SCI. He has been awarded the Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Award three times.
