Prof. Aihua Zhang received his Bachelor’s degree (1996) and M.D., Ph.D. degree (2001) in Nanjing Medical University before joining Nanjing Children’s Hospital as a pediatric nephrologist. From 2004 to 2007, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Utah, USA. He was awarded as the Distinguished Young Scholar by the NSFC in 2013, and has received fundings from various agencies, including the key project of National Nature Science Foundation, the National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Science and Technology. He has published over 160 research papers in prestigious journals such as Sci Transl Med, PNAS, Kidney Int, JASN, JBC, etc.. He has been authorized ten national invention patents. Prof. Zhang has been awarded with the First Prize of Natural Science by the Ministry of Education, the Second Prize and Third Prize of Jiangsu Province Science and Technology, the Young Investigator Award of Chinese Nephrologists’ Association. Currently, Prof. Zhang is a Professor of Medicine in the Medical School of Nanjing University and the School of Pediatrics of Nanjing Medical University; the team leader of the Society of Nephrology and a member of the Society of Rare Diseases in Chinese Medical Association. He also serves as the President of Nanjing Children’s Hospital. Prof. Zhang’s research interests include the pathogenic mechanisms of acute or chronic kidney diseases and congenital rare diseases with renal phenotypes, as well as the discovery of novel therapies against renal diseases.
