On June 7th, 2022, the undergraduate case report defense for the 2017 class in Stomatology of Nanjing University Medical School was held at the Academic Lecture Hall on the 5th floor of the Affiliated Stomatology Hospital. The defense was a summary report on cases after a year of internship.
The defense was divided into two sessions in the morning and afternoon, with a classic case poster exchange during the lunch break. A panel of experts from the affiliated Stomatology Hospital, led by President Yang Xudong, provided feedback and guidance for the defense. Despite the difficulties of Covid-19 epidemic prevention and control measures in the past year, the teachers and students persisted in their teaching and studying, and successfully completed the defense. The students showed a compassionate attitude, and demonstrated their ability in their presentation through rigorous case analysis. The teachers provided detailed feedback on etiology, diagnosis, treatment plans, outcome evaluation, and writing standards, and made constructive suggestions. The defense was intense and exciting, and the students present all benefited from the discussion.
The Stomatology Hospital Affiliated with Nanjing University Medical School has always adhered to high requirements and strict standards for undergraduate internships, and has established and implemented a complete “Stomatology Clinical Level Grading Examination System” over the past decade. With the goal of job competency, it evaluates the clinical abilities of stomatology students at different stages from three aspects: clinical experience, case reports, and objective structured assessment. The process assessment is integrated into daily teaching. Since 2009, the undergraduate graduation case defense in the stomatology program has been implemented for 13 years, with continuous improvement and optimization. Students’ case defense is based on evidence-based medicine and reflects multidisciplinary comprehensive thinking. It gradually achieves the assessment of students’ medical basic knowledge, clinical reasoning ability, and medical humanistic quality.
The completion of the internship does not mean the end, but the starting point of a new journey in the future. Congratulations to the graduating students and best wishes for their future success!
